Welcome to ONLINE Elective Choir at KMS!

The 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade Elective Online Choir will expose students to a varied repertoire of music, teach rhythm, sight reading, solfege, and proper vocal techinque. Participation and effort are key to success. I expect each student to spend about 30 minutes per WEEK for class, knowing that online school looks a lot different than in-person.

I do not expect that all students will become professional musicians.  What I hope they will learn, more than anything, is how to work in a setting that is out of their comfort zone, and try new - and sometimes hard - things. …And who knows? Maybe students will grow to enjoy making some music.

Office Hours

I will maintain the following office hours:

Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday
12:30-2:30pm 12:30-2:30pm 9-11am 9-11am 9-11am

”A Varied Repertoire…”

Students enrolled in class will participate in every piece of music. However, some students, for religious or other reasons, may feel uncomfortable performing certain pieces. I take every effort to ensure the music studied is age appropriate and meets Idaho music education standards. If a child feels uncomfortable with music or text, please contact me at mibelliston@kimberly.edu with reasonable concerns during the first 2 weeks of the quarter to discuss music, or look for a reasonable alternative assignment.

Other Students Joining and Non-Graded Activities

In this chaos of the Coronavirus pandemic, music is more important than ever.  Any other KMS students who want to join this online choir will be allowed to, although their work won't be graded.

There will also be additional content uploaded for students who love music, and have found it as a place to belong.  Maybe there is a ukulele sitting around your house from 5th grade, or maybe your whole family just wants to sing together.  This content will NOT be graded, but just is something that if your family wants additional resources to stay sane, they'll be there for you!
