Choir
In this performance-centered class, students will learn vocal technique, music theory and sight-reading skills necessary to perform a varied repertoire of music. There will be at least one performance per semester and repertoire will be taken from large choral works, madrigals, contemporary music, spirituals, and more. There are no prerequisites and it can be taken as a semester or complete year. Grades: 9-12 Club: Tri-M
Honor Choir
This is a fast-paced, advanced, performance-centered choir class for students who pass an audition. Students will continue their vocal, music theory and sight-reading skills as they learn a varied repertoire of music and present a high standard of quality for Kimberly High School in performance and citizenship. Students will participate in many performances with concert choir and musical theatre and in other settings at community and school events. Parent involvement is very encouraged to make performance and activities most enjoyable.
Prerequiste: Must have a B in this class and have a C average in all their classes; audition required

Music Theater
In this performance-centered class, students will learn singing, acting, dancing and technical skills through the performance in a musical theatre setting. Students in the course are from 9-12 grades at Rise and KHS. We will perform a half-time show at football and basketball. We will also produce a full-length musical in late February or early March. Students planning on lead or supporting roles in the musical, should take the class both semesters. Grades: 9-12 Club: Tri-M
Stage Production
This course is only taught in the Fall. Students interested in learning about lighting and sound equipment, sets, props and costumes should take this course as we prepare for the school musical. There is also an opportunity for students in this class to be hired to operate lighting and sound equipment for outside events. Grades: 9-12 Club: Tri-M
Guitar
In class we will create music and play along with old and new tunes while learning the basics of guitar. Students will need to provide their own guitar and will need to play and sing in class. There is no prerequisite. Guitarists of all skills levels are welcome to join this class. There will be opportunities for students to perform at the choir concerts, but they will not be required. Grades: 9-12 Club: Tri-M
Music Appreciation
In this class, students will receive both high school and college credit through CSI as we create music and play along with old and new tunes while learning the basics of music theory, music history, and study of and experience with basic instruments. I strongly encourage students to wait until their Junior year to take this course so they have a strong background in writing. Musicians of all skill levels will learn and grow in this class. There will be no performance opportunities in this course, but you will be required to attend or view online at least 4 concerts outside of class.

Band, Orchestra, Middle School Bands
Concert Band
The Concert Band is a year-long course open to students at KHS who play a band instrument. This group continues to focus on and expand many of the fundamentals and skills needed for the high levels of musicianship in the concert band ensemble. This performance-based class will include both concert and pep band music and multiple performances for both. Concert Band members are also part of the Pep Band throughout the school year and perform at football games, basketball games, and other events.
Prerequisite: Students should have a year or more playing a band instrument, though exceptions can be made with teacher permission.
Orchestra
The Orchestra is open to high school students who play violin, viola, cello, or double bass. This class will explore the world of orchestral music including works from great composers then and now, chamber music, quartet music, popular music, and more. Instruction will focus on proper instrument positioning and posture, sound production, reading music notation, music creation, and musical performance. Students will perform in at least two after-school concerts and are expected to practice outside of class time.
Prerequisite: Students are should have a year or more playing an orchestra instrument, though exceptions can be made with teacher permission.
Jazz Band
The Jazz band is open to high school students who play band, orchestra, as well as guitar, bass guitar, and piano. This class will explore the world of jazz, blues, rock, Latin, and many other genres of modern music. Students learn how to improvise, the basic form and fuction of blues and jazz styles, and jazz-specific techniques on their instruments. Rehearsals take place during 0-hour in the KHS Band room from 7:20 - 8:05.
Prerequisite: Students should have a year or more playing an instrument in band, orchestra, guitar or piano, though exceptions can be made with teacher permission.
