I am excited to see that you have navigated your way to my home page and are interested in the Agricultural Science and Technology Program at Kimberly High School
My name is Mr. Porath (like poureth the milk) now that the hard things are out of the way a short introduction.
I was raised in American Falls, Idaho on a family owned row crop and cattle operation. This upbringing created a strong love of agricultural and the many possibilities it has to offer.
I attended American Falls High School and participated in sports, 4-H and FFA.
I attended the University of Idaho and graduated with a BS in Agricultural Education.
I began my teaching career at Spring Creek High School in Spring Creek, Nevada (two years) where I had the opportunity to work with great mentors that spring boarded my career. I have since taught at Paisley High School, Paisley, Oregon (five years), Nyssa High School, Nyssa, Oregon (three years) and I began teaching at Kimberly High School in the Fall of 2006.
During my time in Oregon I finished my masters program through Oregon State University.
In my spare time I like to spend time with my wife and three kids and experience the joys and discomforts of agriculture life.
I find the most satisfaction in seeing the success of my students that take full advantage of the opportunities the Agriculture Program has to offer.
Fall 2022 Classes:
Agricultural Fabrication
Agricultural Fabrication is a hands on class for students to practice the skills which they have acquired in Beginning and Advanced Welding. Students will further develop their understanding of project planning and construction. Students are strongly encouraged to have a project of their own to work on, however we have several community members who have projects that they wish to have built.
Advanced Welding
This course is designed to provide students and advanced understanding of welding and cutting skills. Students will receive instruction, and apply their skills, in the areas of SMA Welding, Mig Welding, Oxy/Acetylene cutting, and plasma cutting.
Ag. Food Science
Agricultural Food Science is a specialization course in the CASE Program of Study. Students will complete hands-on activities, projects, and problems that simulate actual concepts and situations found in the food science and safety industry allowing students to build content knowledge and technical skills. Students will investigate areas of food science including food safety, food quality, food chemistry, and food processing. Research and experimental design will be highlighted as students develop and conduct industry appropriate investigations.
Students will investigate, experiment, and learn about the science and safety surrounding food. While completing activities throughout this course, students will be documenting a food development project, solving problems, and communicating solutions to their peers and members of the professional community.
Intro to Ag Education
Introduction to Agricultural Education is designed to expose students to the Agricultural Education Program and increase their understanding of the importance of Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resources. Students will gain an understanding of America's number one industry through various instructional techniques and opportunities.
I look forward to a wonderful year and providing an opportunity where your child can thrive.
