Course Descriptions

Fitness

The standard Fitness class is aimed at students wanting to implement and/or sustain a healthy physical routine.  With a heavy emphasis on strength training, students will learn a wide variety of exercises that will be available to them throughout the rest of their lives.  No lifting experience is necessary.  Class level: 9, 10, 11, 12

Athletic Fitness

This everyday class is designed to improve athletic performance through strength, speed, agility, and power training.  Students will train as athletes in the weight room by performing various training methods aimed to increase performance output.  The latest technologies in athletic training such as barbell velocity trackers, virtual jump recording devices, and a programming app (among others) will be utilized for maximum training efficiency.  Athletes will be prescribed programs based on their sport and position, with programs being meticulously individualized.  All KHS athletes are encouraged to take this class.  Prerequisite: Coach Approval Class level: 9, 10, 11, 12

Lifetime Sports

This course is based on the premise that physical activity and participation are important for all students, regardless of their level of athletic skill or ability. We will also provide instruction and experiences in a variety of lifetime activities that promote physical, social, and emotional well-being. Throughout various activities, students in our program will learn how to incorporate physical activity into their daily lives. In addition, we hope to instill enjoyment of physical activity, as well as an understanding of the importance of maintaining physical fitness. This course may require students to participate in off-campus activities.
Grade level: 9, 10, 11, 12 

Lift and Glow Fitness

The objective of this course is for the student to develop a well rounded fitness routine, which includes the following areas: weights, conditioning through cardio exercises, plyometrics, and stretching. Students will work to increase their level of knowledge while performing the correct techniques, principles, and progressions of weight training to gain muscular strength, muscular endurance, and flexibility. Students will work to improve their body composition, jumping ability, and coordination. Students will also perform movements that increase the strength of soft tissues and focus on injury prevention. We will be using weights, body weight, videos, and guest instructors for this class. 
Grade level: 9, 10, 11, 12 

Athletic Leadership 

The goal of athletic leadership is to provide students with a knowledge base to properly, effectively, appropriately aid in running an athletic program. Students will assist in the event operation planning and execution, that will consist of hands-on experience in these aspects.  Assist with the management of student athlete registration for each sports season. Inspection of and set up of the facility used for events ie. Gym, football stadium, etc.  Assist in the distribution of schedules through the high school calendar, social media, and other avenues.  Preparation of rosters for each athletic event. Promotion of sporting events, upcoming deadlines for athletes, and the athletic program in general.  Management of the Kimberly Athletic Website. Aide in media related avenues of communication such as remind and social media. Inventory of Kimberly High School equipment.   Grade level: 11 and 12
