Art 1 A: Principles of Drawing
High School Art IA - Intermediate Art – One Semester
A course designed to expand students’ knowledge and skill level of drawing. This course will move the young artist away from symbolic language and into drawing what they really see, or “drawing from life”. Masterworks of art, arts impact on society, and the concept of artist’s voice will also be explored. Students will also explore 3-dimensional form through the medium of clay. Grade level: 9 and 10
Art 1 B: Exploration of Media
High School Art IB - Intermediate Art – One Semester
This course will focus on the exploration of media in art. Watercolor, acrylic paint, pastel, ink, charcoal, etc will be explored. This course will help students understand the various techniques and approaches to handling each media. This course will also help students identify these media’s and approaches in masterworks of art. Grade level: 9 and 10
Advanced Art (one semester)
Advanced Art encourages creative and systematic investigation of formal and conceptual issues. It emphasizes making art as an ongoing process that involves the student in informed and critical decision making. It helps students develop technical skills and familiarizes them with the functions of the visual elements. It encourages students to become independent thinkers who will contribute inventively and critically to their culture though the making of art.
Prerequisite: Art 1A&1B Grade level: 10, 11 and 12
AP Art
Advanced Placement Art – Studio – Two Semesters
AP Art is a rigorous academic curriculum which builds on the focus of advanced art, and allows the student to work at a level equivalent to that of a college course. This course is for highly motivated students who are seriously interested in the study of art. This course requires a significant commitment. AP Studio Art assessment is based on a portfolio of 15 high quality works that show mastery of drawing concerns or design issues.
Prerequisite: Art 1A, 1B and Instructors permission Grade level: 11 and 12
