Gonna have a great year!
Physical Science
Physical Science is the study of the basic principles that explain how the world around us works. In this class, you’ll explore topics from both physics and chemistry, including motion, forces, energy, matter, and chemical reactions. You’ll also learn how these ideas connect to real-life situations, from why objects move the way they do to how everyday materials interact. Through labs, experiments, and problem-solving, you’ll build a strong foundation for future science courses and a better understanding of the natural world. Grade level: 9
Biology
This yearlong course offers students a comprehensive introduction to the science of life. Students will explore a wide range of biological concepts, beginning with the scientific method and the foundations of biochemistry. From there, we will dive into the structure and function of cells, examining how cellular processes sustain life. Genetics will be explored in depth, highlighting the principles of inheritance, DNA, and how traits are passed down through generations. Evolutionary theory will be studied, focusing on the mechanisms driving the diversity of life on Earth. Finally, students will investigate the intricate relationships within ecosystems, exploring the principles of ecology and environmental science. Throughout the course, students will develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and lab skills as they engage in experiments and collaborative projects. By the end of the year, students will have gained a solid understanding of the biological principles that govern life and will be prepared for future studies in the sciences.
Grade level: 10
Chemistry
This course provides a comprehensive introduction to the fundamental principles of chemistry. Students will explore topics such as atomic structure, the periodic table, chemical bonding, stoichiometry, states of matter, chemical reactions, thermodynamics, and acids and bases. Through hands-on laboratory experiments, problem-solving exercises, and real-world applications, students will develop critital thinking skills and a deeper understanding of the role chemistry plays in everyday life.
Pre-requisite: Physical Science and Biology Grade level: 11, 12
Astronomy
This Astronomy course introduces students to the fundamental concepts of the universe, exploring celestial objects, space phenomena, and the scientific methods used to study them. Topics include the formation and life cycle of stars, planetary systems, galaxies, black holes cosmology, and the search for extraterrestrial life. Students will also examine the history of astronomy, technological advancements in space exploration, and the role of observation using telescopes and other tools. Grades: 10-12
Environmental Science
This environmental science course introduces students to concepts necessary to understand the connections between living organisms and their surroundings. Topics include earth systems, the living world, population, land and water use, energy resources and conservation, pollution, and global changes. Students will participate in multiple labs, both virtual and physical and will potentially go on field trips weather permitting. Grades: 10th-12th
Pre-Med: Human Biology
Human Biology is a yearlong advanced life science course designed to prepare students for success in college-level Anatomy & Physiology and health science careers. This course is recommended for students pursuing pathways in medicine, nursing, exercise science, and related fields.
Students begin with a brief review of essential biology concepts and supporting chemistry principles before focusing on the structure and function of major human body systems. Topics include the integumentary, skeletal, muscular, nervous, endocrine, cardiovascular, respiratory, digestive, and reproductive systems, with emphasis on how systems work together to maintain homeostasis.
A key component of the course is laboratory investigation, including hands-on dissections of preserved specimens to deepen understanding of anatomical structure and function. Students will engage in lab activities and applied learning experiences that strengthen scientific reasoning and prepare them for the expectations of college science courses.
By the end of the course, students will have developed a strong foundation in human anatomy and physiology, providing a direct bridge to college Anatomy & Physiology and related health science programs.
