FFA Hosts Annual Donkey Basketball Game

On Tuesday, April 8, several teachers, firefighters, community employees, and high school students within the Kimberly community participated in FFA's annual donkey basketball game. This is a yearly community event where these four groups compete against each other in a game of basketball: only they ride donkeys. Two people, one from each team, are on foot in the center circle. The players pass the ball to each other while on their donkeys, and they can only get off to grab the ball. However, they cannot let go of their donkey’s reins. If they do, the players get a penalty, and the ball goes to the other team.

“It was a fast-paced game,” said Mr. Ahlm. “The most important aspect of rebounds is to ‘get your ass down the court’, to quote Mr. Palmer.”

This game was fun and entertaining, and it was more than just a spectator sport. It also raised money for FFA, and at halftime, the FFA students auctioned off desserts to the highest bidder, with some pastries selling for over $100. FFA uses the money to pay for travel costs for the various events members attend, and to finance ones the club may host in the future. Over 80 people helped to get this highly anticipated event set up each spring, and the result at the end was truly something enjoyable that everyone in the Kimberly community could have fun watching.
