The boys and girls soccer teams have both been doing really well this season. So far, the girls’ record is 13-1 and have only lost to Sugar-Salem who is the top-ranked team at the 3A level right now. They have won every single one of their conference games by a long shot. The boys' record is 7-5-2. Every conference game they have played they have won except for tying with Buhl once. As of right now the boys are ranked 11th in the 3A division and the girls are ranked third.
Brian Rodriguez, a senior and a captain on the boys' soccer team, has been player of the game five times so far this season. Brian has scored 14 goals and has added seven assists. Sydney Wayment, a senior for the girls, has been a great asset to the team's defense. She has had a total of 59 steals so far.
“Our season is going way better than expected,” Brian said. “I am looking forward to finishing my senior season by going to state.”
“Our season is going very well,” Sydney said. “We haven’t lost a district game this far and hope to continue to do that through districts. I am looking forward to state and can’t wait to see what our team can do.”
Giovanni Juarez is the boys' goalie. This is Gio’s first year being goalie due to a senior leaving. He was selected Player of the Game against Wendell. During the game he made many good saves and blocked a lot of shots.
“Our season is going good,” he said. “We practically had to start fresh with about 13 seniors leaving last year, but we have been playing pretty well. I am excited for the rest of the season and to win the rest of our games we have left and to get to state.”
“Being a goalie this year was a little different I wasn’t used to this position, but I am learning a lot and doing my best to help out my teammates. Hopefully we can get to state.”
Overall, both the boys' and girls' soccer teams are looking great this year. We are hoping to both see them at state on October 19-21 at Vallivue High school in Caldwell.
