6th Grade Weekly Update December 2nd - December 6th

Welcome to the KMS 6th  

Grade Weekly Update! 

Please make sure students have pencils and paper with them when they head to school! We are seeing a lot of students forgetting to bring these items with them from home.

LANGUAGE ARTS: 

Welcome back! This week we will read through chapter 12 in A Long Walk to Water and begin tracking evidence from the text to support our essay question. We will also introduce week 11 vocabulary terms. Later in the week, we will learn about elements that are in the body paragraphs of a response to literature essay. Those elements are the premise, introduction to evidence, and evidence. Video lessons for each are available on Canvas if you are absent and paper copies of the assignments are available in the absent station. On Thursday and Friday of this week, students will take their weeks 9-10 vocabulary quiz. Don't forget to study!

MATH: 

This week we'll finish chapter 4 by using scaling ratios to enlarge and reduce shapes. We'll also use ratios to solve real-world problems. There is still time to get missing assignments turned in.

PACK: 

This week we are wrapping up our block on Mental Illness. The students are learning about any mental illness they want to learn about and creating a presentation about it. We are also watching the film Soul Surfer which pertains to the Mental Health lesson we are learning about. We will also be reviewing all the items we need to be bringing to school to ensure the students are ready to work and learn everyday. As always, please reach out with any questions or concerns.

SCIENCE 
In Science, we are finishing up the Periodic Table with an open book quiz and briefly covering acids and bases with a hands-on lab.

SOCIAL STUDIES: 

Hey everyone, 

This week we are going to be competing the Geography Terms Notes and move onto our Geography Terms Projects! We will be wroking on these projects and presentations in class!

STEM: 

Hello, today students are finishing their LEGO Prototype for their innovation to show empathy for others. On Tuesday and Wednesday students will create an elevator pitch and present it to the class, their objective will be to prove that their machine is the best. On Thursday and Friday, we will have a class walkabout so that everyone can examine our prototypes, and we will deconstruct our machines. Students were given a study guide prior to Fall Break; Semester 1 Exam will be on the 14th and 16th.
