Dear Families,
Quarter 3 ends on March 13th. Please encourage your student to check grades, look for any missing work, and get assignments turned in now so they can finish the quarter strong. Staying on top of assignments these next couple of weeks will make a big difference. Spring Break is March 23rd–27th, which will be here before we know it!
We will not be having a Snow Fitness Day this year due to lack of snow. Any money that was turned in will be refunded next week.
Next week is Dr. Seuss Dress-Up Week!
Monday: Cat in the Hat Day (wear stripes, red & white, or a cat-style hat)
Tuesday: Crazy Socks Day (mismatch, bright, silly)
Wednesday: Wacky Wednesday (backwards clothes, inside-out shirts, mixed-up outfits — get creative!)
Thursday: Thing 1 & Thing 2 Day (wear blue or red, or match with a friend for double the fun!)
Friday: Green Eggs & Ham Day (wear green, pajamas, or chef-themed outfits)

Here are a few specifics:
English: We will read chapter 6 in The Lightning Thief and continue answering reading questions using the RACES writing strategy for short constructed responses. Students will also continue working on their Unit 3 Vocabulary packets. Later in the week, students will learn to compose strong introductory paragraphs for cause-effect expository writing. With quarter 3 closing in, it is a good time to check in with your student on their independent reading minutes. Students should have 540 total minutes logged for quarter 3 to receive full credit on that assignment. If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know.

Math: We'll review how to do long division and apply our skills to divide decimal numbers by decimal numbers. Students need to bring a pencil to class every day. I do not have pencils to "loan" them. Also, many students have missing work. If students missed or did not finish the Chapter 6 test, they need to schedule a day with me to take it after school. Please see me if you need help getting caught up!

Social Studies: Next week we will be wrapping up one final activity from our unit on the Incas before transitioning into our next unit on Explorers. We plan to begin the Explorers unit toward the end of the week. This can sometimes be a more challenging unit for students as we learn about different explorers, their journeys, and their impact on history. Please encourage your student to review their notes and discuss what we are learning at home. Talking through the material can make a big difference in understanding and retention. Please hang on to any possible shoe boxes for a project we will be doing in the spring. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out. Science: We will wrap up Unit 3 with a very short open notes test on Lessons 5-7. The students will start their group projects. They are designing informational posters about a simple machine that will be assigned to them. They will have two workdays in class and start presentations on the third day. The rubric will be available in Canvas. This is a 100-point test grade that will go on Quarter 4.

PACK: Next week I am gone and there will be a substitute. The students will be creating a new presentation on the “Best Spring Break Ever.” The kids get to tell us where they would want to go, what they would want to do, and who they would want to do it with assuming they had all the money they needed and a week off. The format is the normal and the grading rubric is in canvas. I will not be near any computer so I apologize for any delayed responses.

STEM: In STEM this week, students wrapped up their earthquake towers on Friday, and A-Day will complete theirs on Monday. Cabin blueprints were also due Friday (A-Day Monday); any unfinished work became homework and should now be turned in.
We are beginning our Architecture Poster Project. I have purchased the poster boards for students and would appreciate a $0.50 donation from each student to help cover the cost. The criteria and detailed instructions will be posted on Canvas on Wednesday. A-Day projects are due on the 12th, and B-Day projects are due on the 11th. This is a Quarter 3 assignment and must be submitted. If your student will be out of town, the project must be turned in prior to the 13th. Please reach out if you have any questions.
