Weekly Update 01/03/23-01/06/23

Welcome to the KMS 6th Grade Weekly Update!

Welcome back from winter break! Make sure to be working hard and doing your best in all your classes! The end of the Second Quarter will be on January 13th in two weeks.

LANGUAGE ARTS:

Welcome back from the break! This week in Language Arts we will be taking the Harry Potter test and turning in the five paragraph Personal Narrative. They were both due before the break, however,  many students were absent. We will be finishing the movie, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. We will be talking about the Personal Narratives and test taking skills later in the week. Student’s quarterly AR book is due tomorrow and Thursday. I hope you have had a great start to your new year!

MATH:

We are wrapping up Chapter 3 in Math this week. A study guide will go home on Tuesday and Wednesday, so students know what to study. I have also posted the study guide to Canvas. The test will be on Thursday and Friday this week.

The end of the quarter is coming! I am available after school for students who need help completing missing assignments or making test corrections. There is still time to get those grades up! A zero on an assignment means it wasn't turned in when I collected them, but I will accept late work. Please ask me if you have any questions about math grades.

PACK:

This week in PACK we will be doing our last grade check of the semester on paper. Students will need a parent/guardian signature before turning them in. We also will be having our last binder backpack check. We will be starting a holiday partner project as well.

SCIENCE:

Hey All,

The quarter is quickly coming to a close. Your students' final drafts will be due for their Element wanted poster 1.4 for A day and 1.5 for B day. Students have been working on these for several weeks and if they are behind were reminded to take them home to work on them. Once we finish up our posters, we will be starting to discuss phase change regarding solids, liquids, and gases. If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know and I would be happy to help. Thanks!

SOCIAL STUDIES:

Hey everyone!

This week we will be turning in our Asia Maps and our Bellringer Check #3 (Bellringers 25-36) on Thursday (B-Day) and Friday (A-Day) this week! Make sure to have both of these assignments done and ready to go! Let me know if you have any questions.

STEM:

Hello Parents/Guardians and Students! I hope this update finds you in good health and enjoying the new year! Our focus Tuesday - Thursday will be FutureSmart. After students complete 4 units (receive 4 green check marks), they have the option to write an essay and submit it to EVERFI for the chance of winning a $5,000 scholarship. Last year one of our 6th grade students was selected, it was very exciting! All the details for the essay are found on our STEM Canvas page under 01/04 & 01/05 "FutureSmart" Finalized. This is optional and needs to be completed at home. I am happy to review essays and give suggestions if wanted. If students have questions about how to upload their essay, I am available to help them do that too. Essays should be completed and submitted before the end of January.

We will be building bridges out of popsicle sticks in two weeks. I would appreciate any donations. Thank you in advance.

Students will also receive their Unit 3 Vocabulary this week. We will have a quiz on words A-C on January 23rd and January 24th. It's a good idea to spend 5 minutes studying these for homework. If you have any questions or concerns please reach out.
