Weekly Update 01/23/23-01/27/23

Welcome to the KMS 6th Grade Weekly Update! 

 Make sure to have your computers charged and ready to go for school BEFORE you come into your classes! There will be No School on Friday January 27th.

LANGUAGE ARTS: 

This is a busy week in English Language Arts. Our main focuses will be on visualizing/ the five senses, character development, and conjunctions. We will be doing bellringer #2 on canvas; reviewing the assignment, The Volcano Lady on canvas; doing the Visualizing assignment on Stydysync; and doing the First Read Perseus assignment on Studysync. Please check powerschool for updated grades.

MATH: 

This week in math we are using variables to represent unknowns and to evaluate expressions. This is a key concept for moving forward in algebra. If your student misses a day, please have them review the lesson on Canvas.  

Students with low grades have missing assignments. Check the "No Name" board or I have another copy so it can be completed and turned in

PACK: 

 This week in PACK we will be finishing up our unit on Organizing. Our first parent signature for grade checks is due on M/T. We will be continuing Grade Checks each week on M/T so continue to look for those to get signed.

Pre Algebra: 

This week in Pre-Algebra, we are starting Chapter 6.  We will be learning about transformations (how to move points and shapes on the coordinate plane).

SCIENCE: 

Hey All, 

In science we will be having a quiz on Tuesday 1.24 and Wednesday 1.25 over phase change and elements, compounds, and mixtures. Students should be taking a study guide home to study (we went over in class). Thursday and next Monday we will be making Ice cream to end the unit! Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns and I would be happy to answer them!

SOCIAL STUDIES: 

Hey everyone! 

This week we are wrapping up on the History and Culture of Africa and are going to begin talking about Oceania. We will also be working on a map along with this, so make sure to work on this in class! We will also have discussion on cultural differences that the United States has that is different from the rest of the world! Let me know if you have any questions for me!

STEM: 

Hello, we are well into the 3rd Quarter. Students will complete their popsicle bridge build this week. A-Day will test their bridges on Thursday B-Day will test their bridges on February 9th. The next week students will be selecting a structure to research. They will create a PowerPoint Presentation and share it with the class on February 7th and 8th. This will also be the day students take their Unit 3 Vocabulary Test on words A-C.
