Dear Families,
As we begin Quarter 4, it’s a great time for new beginnings and new goals as we work toward finishing 6th grade strong. We encourage students to start the quarter off on the right foot by staying organized and keeping up with their assignments. Please also remember that there are GPA requirements for students who wish to participate in track meets and soccer games, so keeping grades up is important.
A quick reminder that Spring Break is March 23rd–27th. Thank you for your continued support as we head into the final quarter of the school year!
Here are a few specifics:
English: In English this week we will read chapter 8 in The Lightning Thief and students will take the quiz on chapters 5-8. We will also be wrapping up our Cause-and-Effect Introductory Paragraph lessons. Additionally, students will begin working on Unit 4 Vocabulary. At the end of this unit, they will have a test. Encourage them to study their packets leading up to each test.

Math: We will review what we learned in Chapter 7 and then take the test. A-day will take the test on Wednesday, and B-day will take the test on Thursday. If students are leaving early for Spring Break, they need to come in after school to take the test before they leave.

Social Studies: Hello, Next week we will be completing our Explorer Notebook/Project. Please check in with your child this weekend to see how their project is coming along, as it is a big assignment. Projects must be completed by the end of class on March 18th for A-Day and March 19th for B-Day. The test will also take place on those same days, so students should be studying and reviewing their notes, which are now completed. Thank you for your support!

Science: This week we will be watching the animated Disney movie, Robots, and then reviewing the science we have covered so far by playing Jeopardy. The group project posters have been graded and will be the first test grade in Quarter 4. The rubric is available in Canvas for the points breakdown.

PACK: It was fun getting to hear the students ideas of a best Spring Break vacation. If you have not heard their ideas you should ask them, some were very adventurous, others were family and home interest, and then some were just wild kid imagination stuff which was cool too! Next week we are going to talk about resiliency, what that means, why we need it, and learn how to be more resilient as we come across life’s obstacles.

STEM: In STEM next week, students will still take their Unit 3 Vocabulary Quiz (D–Z) on Monday and Tuesday. Because several students will be out for Spring Break, we will be adjusting our plans for the rest of the week. Instead of beginning the city planning project, we will focus on Volume, Perimeter, and Surface Area to help prepare students for the ISAT.
I have published the Monday–Thursday Canvas pages ahead of time. Students should only work ahead this weekend if they know they will be absent next week due to Spring Break. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out.

Queridas familias,
Al comenzar Quarter 4, es un buen momento para nuevos comienzos y nuevas metas mientras trabajamos para terminar 6º grado con fuerza. Animamos a los estudiantes a empezar el trimestre organizados y al día con sus tareas. También recuerden que hay requisitos de GPA para los estudiantes que quieran participar en track meets y juegos de soccer, así que es importante mantener buenas calificaciones.
Un recordatorio rápido que Spring Break es del 23 al 27 de marzo. ¡Gracias por su apoyo continuo mientras entramos al último trimestre del año escolar!
Aquí van algunos detalles:
English: En English esta semana leeremos el capítulo 8 de The Lightning Thief y los estudiantes tomarán el quiz de los capítulos 5–8. También estaremos terminando nuestras lecciones de párrafos introductorios de Cause-and-Effect. Además, los estudiantes comenzarán a trabajar en el Unit 4 Vocabulary. Al final de esta unidad tendrán un examen, así que es buena idea que vayan estudiando sus paquetes de vocabulario.

PACK: Fue muy divertido escuchar las ideas de los estudiantes sobre su mejor Spring Break posible. Si no han escuchado sus ideas, pregúntenles — algunas fueron muy aventureras, otras sobre familia y estar en casa, y otras fueron pura imaginación divertida de niños. La próxima semana hablaremos sobre resiliencia, qué significa, por qué la necesitamos y cómo podemos ser más resilientes cuando enfrentamos obstáculos en la vida.

STEM: En STEM la próxima semana los estudiantes todavía tomarán su quiz de vocabulario de la Unidad 3 (D–Z) el lunes y martes. Como varios estudiantes estarán fuera por Spring Break, vamos a ajustar un poco nuestros planes para el resto de la semana. En lugar de empezar el proyecto de planificación de ciudad, nos vamos a enfocar en volumen, perímetro y área de superficie para ayudar a los estudiantes a prepararse para el ISAT.
Ya publiqué las páginas de Canvas de lunes a jueves. Los estudiantes solo deben trabajar adelantado este fin de semana si saben que estarán ausentes la próxima semana por Spring Break. Si tienen alguna pregunta, no duden en comunicarse conmigo.
