Ms. Chaffin and Ms. DeWitt are Kimberly High School’s new science teachers for the 2024-25 school year. They have both recently transferred from other schools and moved into science positions at KHS. Through the interviews, both made it abundantly clear that both have a very dedicated passion for teaching.
Ms. Chaffin is beginning her sixth year as an educator after transferring from South Hills Middle School. Before her career began, she graduated with a degree in earth science education, a bachelor’s, and a master's. Some of Ms. Chaffin's hobbies include sewing, photography, and singing, and she loves to just live life. One of the biggest things that Ms. Chaffin wants the student body to know is that she and her classroom are a safe place for students who are struggling and need a place to take some time or just to have a break.
When asked if she enjoyed teaching Ms. Chaffin answered straight away: “I love it.”
Ms. DeWitt is starting her fourth year as an educator after leaving Cornerstone High School. She has an associates in biology and a bachelors in secondary education and history. Ms. DeWitt has many hobbies outside of school. She partakes in reading and painting and likes to do embroidery. Ms. DeWitt loves to have fun but also likes to stick to the rules. She talks of how she does love fun but loves it more when kids listen to her.
Ms. DeWitt says her favorite part about teaching is, “Having fun with the kids and building relationships with them so I can be there for them.”
