The 2024-25 school year was spectacular for our KHS boys wrestling team. The group showed incredible dedication, trained hard and pushed their limits at every practice. Their hard work really paid off with multiple victories. Outstanding performances came for the seniors on the team. It was a season to remember, filled with intense matches, personal bests, laughter and a strong sense of team spirit.

“The season went well overall,” said senior Talan Volkel. “We did have a lot of newer people, and I thought Coach Bedke did a good job at trying to adjust the team toward those new people and help develop their bases.”

At State, the best finisher was senior Lucas Williams, who took second in the 175-lb. division. Junior Koen Barendregt took third at 150 lbs.

“We had more state qualifiers this year than in the last four years,” Volkel said. “I started wrestling my freshman year because my mom forced me to do something. So I chose wrestling and fell in love with it.

“Wrestling is a tough sport. It’s hard work but a lot of fun. Senior night for us boys was a night to remember. It was just super emotional because it was my last home dual with guys I’ve called my brothers for the last four years.”

Freshman Colt Rudner said, “This season went well. It was my first year, so I had a lot of new things to learn. But I thought I liked it. My older brother inspired me to do wrestling. He was such a good wrestler, and it made me want to be as good as him.
