Kimberly’s girls wrestling program proved to be successful during its first two years as a sport at the high school. Along with that it also experienced an increase in girls in the program during the 2024-25 school year. Many girls found success through wrestling over other sports and it showed on the mats.

Girls wrestling was always looking for more girls to compete, according to coaches and participants. The program was growing increasingly from when it began with only one girl wrestler.

Wrestling was one of the most physically demanding sports anywhere. Every athlete had to find something that would keep them motivated throughout the season. For junior Cashlin Volkel, a sixth-place state finisher, her motivation came through the podium.

“What kept me motivated was seeing myself on the podium and being with my siblings on a team,” she said.

Being able to be on a team with siblings or friends created a powerful bond. Wrestling was the perfect sport to be able to support your friends while practicing aside them. Motivation from others was the best type of motivation.

Freshman Savannah Searby, said, “My favorite memory of the season was bus rides to tournaments.”

The memories created throughout a demanding and fun sport created such a special environment for the wrestlers. They knew how to have fun, but they also knew when they had to practice hard to preform strong at meets. Wrestling was such a physically demanding sport that having fun outside of their matches was crucial.

Girls wrestling was a program that grew every year. It was important for the wrestlers to have motivation throughout the season because of how hard it was on their bodies. It was also important to create memories with friends and siblings on the team. Girls wrestling was a successful program through which it was easy to create memories.
