Dear Families,
As we head into our final week before Winter Break, KMS is excited to wrap up 2025 with school spirit, kindness, and holiday fun! School will follow the regular schedule on Friday, December 19th, and we will return from break on January 5th, which will be an A Day. Please take a moment to review the important events happening this week:
Important Dates & Events
- Change for Change Fundraiser Ends December 17th:
- This fundraiser supports East End Providers in helping families in need during the holiday season.
- Any donation is appreciated and is turned into Advisory Teachers.
- PAWS: Thursday
- Student Council Holiday Assembly: December 19th during elective classes.
- Dress Up Days:
- Monday - Pajama day
- Tuesday - Christmas/crazy socks
- Wednesday - Ugly sweater
- Thursday - Ski / Snowboard / Tubing gear
- Friday - Christmas Dress
- Students are encouraged to dress in festive attire such as Santa, reindeer, Grinch, elf, or ugly sweater themes.
- To participate, students should bring $1 on the morning of December 19th. They will receive a stamp, which enters them into a variety of prize drawings during lunch.
We hope all of our families enjoy a safe, restful, and joy-filled Winter Break. See you back on January 5th!
Here are a few specifics:
English: In English we will read chapters 13-14 in A Long Walk to Water and take the quiz on chapters 10-12. Students will read the notes for section 2 in their Reading Guide packet and work to complete the questions in section 2 as well. For Vocabulary, students will complete page #4 in their vocabulary packets. Lastly, we will be taking the Winter STAR test on Wednesday and Thursday. Please encourage students to perform their best! We should see an increase in their scores from our last test in the fall.
Math: In math, we will be taking our Chapter 4 test so students can truly have a break and not do math homework. We'll finish Chapter 4 and review the study guide on Monday and Tuesday. The test will be on Wednesday and Thursday. We'll finish the week with a 3-Act Math task to review some of the concepts we have learned so far. Missing assignments can still be completed and turned in until January 9th. Please let me know if you have questions or concerns.
Social Studies: During the week before holiday break, we will be reviewing material in preparation for our upcoming quiz. A-Day students will take the quiz on December 18th, and B-Day students will take it on December 19th. Please encourage your student to review their notes and vocabulary at home to reinforce what we’ve covered in class.
Science: We will be watching the Disney movie “Elemental” and answering questions. We will be reviewing 5th Grade Science by playing Jeopardy. Any students with missing assignments will be given time in class this week to get caught up before the break. Moving into Quarter 3, any students with missing assignments will not be allowed to participate in labs. They will be given an alternate assignment or asked to work on their missing assignments.
PACK: This week we will be delivering our “Best Gift Ever” (persuasion) presentations. The students had the opportunity to work on them all last week to create a 2-minute presentation to persuade someone to buy them the “best gift ever.” Hopefully they showed you the presentation, if not, by all means ask them to present it. This will wrap up the week before they have their break. I hope you all have a great couple of weeks together.
STEM: This week in STEM, students will take their Semester 1 Exam on Monday and Tuesday. Retakes will be available after Winter Break and must be scheduled ahead of time to be taken after school. We’ll finish the week with a fun Winter STEM Challenge on Wednesday and Thursday. On Friday, all Boom Card submissions will be due; this online assignment was introduced to students in November. A-Day classes were given time to finalize theirs on the 12th, and B-Day classes will finalize theirs on the 19th. Please contact me with any questions.

Al comenzar nuestra última semana antes de las vacaciones de invierno, en KMS nos complace cerrar el 2025 con un ambiente escolar, amabilidad y diversión navideña. El horario escolar seguirá el viernes 19 de diciembre y regresaremos de las vacaciones el 5 de enero, que será un día especial. Por favor, tómense un momento para repasar los eventos importantes de esta semana:
Fechas y eventos importantes
- La recaudación de fondos "Cambio por Cambio" finaliza el 17 de diciembre:
- Esta recaudación de fondos apoya a East End Providers para ayudar a las familias necesitadas durante la temporada navideña.
- Se agradece cualquier donación y se entregará a los maestros asesores.

- Asamblea del Consejo Estudiantil en las fiestas: 19 de diciembre durante las clases optativas.

Aquí les dejo algunos detalles:
Inglés: En inglés, leeremos los capítulos 13 y 14 de "Un Largo Camino Hacia el Agua" y realizaremos el examen de los capítulos 10 a 12. Los estudiantes leerán las notas de la sección 2 en su paquete de Guía de Lectura y también trabajarán para responder las preguntas de la sección 2. Para Vocabulario, completarán la página 4 de su paquete de vocabulario. Por último, realizaremos el examen STAR de Invierno el miércoles y el jueves. ¡Anímenlos a dar lo mejor de sí! Deberíamos ver un aumento en sus calificaciones con respecto a nuestro último examen de otoño.
Matemáticas: En matemáticas, terminaremos el Capítulo 4 y presentaremos el examen el miércoles y el jueves. Se entregará la guía de estudio, que está disponible en Canvas. Si necesitan ayuda con las tareas pendientes, por favor, programen una reunión conmigo después de clases.
Estudios Sociales: Durante la semana previa a las vacaciones, repasaremos el material para prepararnos para nuestro próximo examen. Los alumnos del Día A lo realizarán el 18 de diciembre y los del Día B el 19 de diciembre. Por favor, animen a sus alumnos a repasar sus apuntes y vocabulario en casa para reforzar lo aprendido en clase.
Ciencias: Veremos la película de Disney "Elemental" y responderemos preguntas. Repasaremos Ciencias de 5.º grado jugando Jeopardy. Los estudiantes con tareas pendientes tendrán tiempo en clase esta semana para ponerse al día antes del descanso. Al comenzar el tercer trimestre, los estudiantes con tareas pendientes no podrán participar en las prácticas de laboratorio. Se les asignará una tarea alternativa o se les pedirá que trabajen en las tareas pendientes.
PACK: Esta semana presentaremos nuestras presentaciones de "El mejor regalo" (persuasión). Los estudiantes tuvieron la oportunidad de trabajar en ellas la semana pasada para crear una presentación de 2 minutos para persuadir a alguien de que les compre el "mejor regalo". Esperamos que les hayan mostrado la presentación; si no, pídanles que la presenten. Esto terminará la semana antes de las vacaciones. Espero que tengan un par de semanas geniales.
STEM: Esta semana en STEM, los estudiantes presentarán su examen del primer semestre el lunes y martes. Habrá exámenes de recuperación disponibles después de las vacaciones de invierno y deben programarse con anticipación para tomarlos después de clases. Terminaremos la semana con un divertido Desafío STEM de Invierno el miércoles y jueves. El viernes, deberán entregar todas las tarjetas Boom Card; esta tarea en línea se presentó a los estudiantes en noviembre.
